Kent Cigarettes – three types of strength
The first cigarettes of brand Kent appeared in 1952. Their production company was started by Lorilard Tobacco Company. Initially, they had a length of 70 mm, smooth taste and an asbestos filter. Kent cigarettes received their name after Herbert Kent, who at the time was the head of this company. Implementation of cigarettes was carried out mainly in the USA. At that time, these were expensive cigarettes of 70 mm length, in the traditional soft pack peculiar for that period the US.
Cigarettes were very popular among smokers. But soon, scientists have concluded that the asbestos filter can lead to lung cancer, and manufacturers replaced it with non-asbestos - Micronite, which allowed the company to outperform its competitors in the market. Now there is used a charcoal filter in Kent cigarettes.
In the 70s the brand was acquired by British American Tobacco Group, and the sale of Kent began not only in the US but also in other countries.
Since its introduction in the market, Kent cigarettes were considered to be light cigarettes until competitors began to produce lighter cigarettes.
For each smoker the degree of lightness is determined individually, and, for this convenience, Kent manufacturers began to produce it in three types of strength and mark the brand with the numbers "1", "4", "8". The pack design has also been changed. The lighter were cigarettes, the lighter the color of the pack was.
In 2006 there was conducted a re-branding: there was developed a new design of the packs.
In 2010, it was launched a new product in the international market - Kent Convertibles. The filter of the cigarettes of this brand is half coal and half made out of the - the acetate, which is inside a gelatin capsule rendering a refreshing taste. Clicking on the icon, while smoking, activates the filter of the capsule, and makes the taste of cigarettes be changed to a refreshingly minty, similar to menthol taste.
Globally, Kent is situated in a leading position in terms of sales in the segment of premium quality.
